A TRUE STORY BROUGHT TO OUR SCREENS
GENJI
two comments were copied from the comments on the
Motoss playlist which I think is fantastic like
mostly everyone who watched it through. The film
was made in 1987, I am going to have a llook to see
if Amazon have a copy. I found this on a Japanese
Film site.
First comment
This story took
place 1,000 years ago, in Heian Japan. Genji was most
certainly not a "slut" according to that era's
societal norms, and was
actually very well-mannered.
While there are some
instances of Karmic
Repercussions in the story, they are not completely
due to disloyalty
to his wife. Genji's marriage to his wife was
arranged--
He still had
many affairs before and after....as did
everyone.
Comment.
cherry blossom dance that Genji does at the end is
the same
dance as in the beginning. In Japanese culture the
cherry blossom dance
is a way of showing respect for the blossoms.
The blossoms symbolise
prosperity and hope. So Genji thinks that the
cherry blossoms took his
mother because without her he was lost,
comfused,
and alone. So
knowing that he will be exiled he dances for the
cherry blossoms as a
way of settling things. He hopes that the blossoms
wil bring him luck
in the future.
There is a video clip at
position 12, gives a small idea about Genji.
No things haven't got much better, words and sentences completely wrong as usual. Seligor
