This afternoon I took time out to watch "Doctor's" one of the very few soaps! I do watch, mainly because it is always on whilst having my lunch.CLASSIC POETRY
It was a strange episode, made even more strange by the classic piece of poetry that was spoken during the end credits.
The Poem's called
"EYES AND TEARS"
and was written by one of England's wonderful Metaphysical Poets.
His name ANDREW MARVELL. 1621 - 1678 living during the Cromwell reformation, both before and after the execution of Charles I.
THIS IS HIS POEM, I KNOW YOU WILL LOVE IT
HOW wisely Nature did decree,
With the same eyes to weep and see ;
That, having viewed the object vain,
They might be ready to complain !
And, since the self-deluding sight
In a false angle takes each height,
These tears, which better measure all,
Like watery lines and plummets fall.

ReplyDeleteI forgot to add that Andrew Marvell was a great friend of John Dunne who I am sure you would like as well. Of course you only have a snippet of the poem here, the rest is at Dodies Dream World along with very many wonderful things to look at and read, not forgetting listening too. Enjoy and do feel free to leave a message should you want any special poem dedicated to you.
ReplyDeletePS. I had to delete the first comment, I had written the wrong name, sorry. Dodie xxx
